Having served the utility industry for almost 40 years, the team at E Source is focused on bridging the gap between people and purpose, data and decisions, and utilities with their customers. At DTECH 2026, Factor This Content Director Paul Gerke sat down with Melanie Wemple, Vice President, Data Science Client Success at E Source, to explore what those specifics look like to and for utilities across the United States.
“All of our utility clients are trying to figure out how to get the data out of the box,” said Wemple. “Once you unleash it, how do you operationalize it? How do you make decisions with it without being bogged down? It’s why a lot of our clients want to partner with companies like E Source that can help them set up data platforms to unlock that value. There are just so many areas you have to tackle to make that happen.”
The two discussed how utilities are leveraging data to prepare for extreme weather, what it takes to equip grid operators with proactive tools, the nuances of strategic undergrounding, how advanced tech can directly mitigate affordability issues for customers and much more.
